In these trying times, when COVID-19 overwhelms us and the U.S. healthcare system has been pushed to the brink, it is easy to overlook other health and medical issues that can also overwhelm us, our families, and our loved ones. Cancer is one of those medical issues; a disease caused by an uncontrolled division of abnormal cells. A cancer diagnosis is like a large stone carelessly tossed into a pool of calm water where everyone in the circle of ripples is now affected. All of us are touched by cancer. Cancer wreaks havoc on not only the body but the mind and spirit and demands so much more than clinical care. Support for counseling, massage, wellness classes, and personal items to ease the appearance of cancer, are rarely provided by an overburdened healthcare system. Thankfully, there are non-profit organizations helping to fill this need. One of those organizations working to provide caring and compassionate support is Cancer Support Community Indiana. All proceeds from this release will be donated to the South Central Indiana program which provides support and assistance free of charge to individuals and their families who are fighting this disease.

This project began in the early stages of the pandemic when my good friend Christopher and I reconnected and decided to work on a project together based upon his percussion compositions. These compositions were a distinctive creative prompt which challenged me to approach this music in a manner different from my current artistic practice. In turn, my approach to the music challenged Christopher to approach things in a manner different from his current artistic practice. I believe the results are a true collaboration which brings the best out of each of us and creates something unique which neither of us would have done without the other.
Additionally, the creative music world is a relatively small and connected community and we were able to call on many friends and acquaintances to help flesh out this project. This project encompassed not just Bloomington, Indiana and Sarasota, Florida, but also New York City and Chicago as well France, Belgium and Australia. I am truly appreciative of everyone who participated in this project and was willing to contribute their time and talents: Christopher, Jon, Rocky, Zach, Brendan, Samuel, Richard, Tom and Jacob. I’d like to particularly thank Richard Bonnet for his contributions and for all his help and support. And also Ingrid Laubrock for her help with recording.
